Pasig City partners with GCash in cashless payments thrust
The City Government of Pasig has partnered with GCash, the country’s leading e-wallet, to roll out the QR Ph initiative at the Pasig City Mega Market. This will enable market vendors, tricycle operators, and drivers to offer safer and more convenient digital payment options to their customers.
With this partnership now in place, public market vendors and tricycle drivers at Pasig City Mega Market can now easily transact with their customers and passengers using the GCash QR. Moreover, GCash celebrated this launch by giving customers weeklong exciting GTreats – Piso Pizza Slice and Piso Halo-Halo when they pay using GCash.
The partnership was formalized during a recent event that was graced by the key Pasig City government officials namely City Mayor Vico Sotto, City Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworksi, Jr., Congressman Roman Romulo, City Councilor Simon Romulo Tantoco, City Councilor and Chairman of the committee on Market Rosalio Martires, City Administrator Atty. Jeronimo Manzanero, officer-in-charge, Pasig Public Market Administration Joseph Vincent Pastor Molina, and officer-in-charge, Management Information Systems Office John Carlo Fatallo. They were also joined by representatives from the GCash team namely Head of Enterprise and Public Sector Luigi Reyes, Cluster Head of Public Sector and Partnerships Cathlyn Pavia, Team Lead for LGU Rose Abarquez, and Account Manager Jamie Tiu.
“The local government of Pasig is very happy to enter into this MOA (memorandum of agreement) with you. Siguro sasamantalahin ko na rin ‘yung pagkakataon to make sure that we are all on the same page. Tayo po ay tungo sa digitalization, tayo po ay tungo po sa smart city model,” Sotto said.
Aside from the Pasig City partnership, GCash is looking forward to establishing more tie-ups with other LGUs in line with the PalengQR PH initiative by the BSP and DILG.
Paleng-QR Ph was launched by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in June to promote cashless QR transactions among market vendors, community shopkeepers, and tricycle drivers to further expand the country’s digital payments ecosystem.
With its vision of pushing “Finance for All,” GCash is constantly on the lookout for more opportunities to empower more Filipinos, especially the unbanked sector all over the region and to push for the acceptance of digital payments among market vendors, community shopkeepers, tricycle operators, and drivers in all cities and municipalities in the Philippines.
